Recreation Aotearoa’s Midlands Group hosted a Big Day Out in Hawke’s Bay on Friday 11 September.  Xyst was one of the sponsors for this event and, as Co-Chairs, Elise Yule and Brendon Rope were busy behind the scenes pulling together a full programme for the day, packed with interesting speakers and showcasing some of the “experiences” in the area including:

  • Mitre10 Park HB – a multi-sport precinct including a new canoe polo facility
  • Toitoi, the Opera House – a jewel in the crown arts and events centre, now open after earthquake strengthening works
  • Cornwall Park – following significant community engagement this premier playground opened in time for Christmas 2019
  • Waitangi Regional Park – Ātea a Rangi star compass and recent wetland development
  • Napier Port – blue penguin habitat management scheme
  • HB Trails – a network of cycleways stretching almost 200km
  • Watchman Road – overview of the award-winning project, creating a safer entry to HB airport
  • Anderson Park – chance to walk around this destination playground, skilfully designed to offer a great family day out

Everyone had a great time, even if the weather didn’t stay fine.  So a big Well Done to Elise and Brendon for helping to make this happen, and thanks to the other sponsors from the area: Hastings District Council, Napier City Council, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Sage Planning.
