Mangakino Reserve and Lakefront Development Plan

This popular area experiences significant pressure from different user groups. Users include casual recreational users who utilise the reserve for more passive recreational activities for whanau and friends picnicking and barbecuing together, campervan and other domestic visitors in vehicles, cyclists and e-cyclists on the Waikato River trail, swimmers and families with children using the existing playground.

Reserve development in this area needs to be cognisant of the differing needs of both passive and active user groups and the safety of a range of users including children during larger events and periods.

It is desirable to spread the pressures of these different activities in the longer term to avoid conflicts and to maintain the natural values of the area.

Xyst has recommended a number of improvements and implementation staging to achieve these objectives over time, along with a longer term vision setting plan.

Project Benefit

Xyst was engaged by Taupō District Council to develop a plan (including drawings and visuals) that satisfies the current use demands and foreseeable future demands on the Mangakino (Lake Maraetai) Lakefront (including the Mangakino Recreation Reserve).
